Confirmation Anatomy: Line by Line

Confirmation Anatomy: Line by Line (with anonymized specimen)

(Aelix – Structures That Clear Series)

Confirmations are not clerical. They are control documents.
They tell the story of a transaction in the exact language that clears credit, schedules flow, and reconciles payment.

At Aelix, we write confirmations to the standard the market expects but few actually meet. Every field is deliberate, every number verifiable. That is why our paper executes faster and closes cleaner.

What a Confirmation Really Does

A confirmation is not a summary of a deal. It is the bridge between what was traded and what will settle.
It aligns four functions at once:

  1. Commercial agreement.
  2. Scheduling instruction.
  3. Credit exposure record.
  4. Settlement roadmap.

If any one of those four is incomplete, the trade lags or disputes surface later.

Why Line-by-Line Discipline Matters

Each line in a confirmation is a control point.
When the confirm is precise, there is no debate later.
When it is vague, settlement turns into interpretation.

We eliminate interpretation.

Aelix Confirmation Structure

Our confirms follow a uniform order that never changes:

  1. Trade ID and Date – Unique to each executed deal, time-stamped to the minute.
  2. Buyer / Seller Identification – Legal names as listed in the NAESB master, no abbreviations.
  3. Product Description – Natural Gas, Firm or Interruptible, Term Offtake or Swing as applicable.
  4. Delivery Point(s) – Full pipeline or ISO location code, zone, and meter number when available.
  5. Contract Quantity – Daily or total volume, formatted consistently with decimals, no rounding.
  6. Price – Index and basis stated clearly (for example: “Inside FERC Columbia Gas Transmission Appalachia Index +$0.05”).
  7. Delivery Period – Start and end dates inclusive.
  8. Transportation / Title – Clear statement of where title transfers and who bears imbalance.
  9. Scheduling Contact Information – Direct line, not a generic inbox.
  10. Sign-Off Language – “This confirmation constitutes the entire agreement for the transaction referenced above under the Master Agreement between the parties.”

Why Aelix Standardizes Every Field

  1. Consistency removes delay. Counterparties know exactly where to look for what matters.
  2. Automation becomes possible. Predictable structure means faster reconciliation.
  3. Credit feels comfortable. Pre-cleared formatting signals operational control.
  4. Disputes disappear. Every confirm can be audited in minutes.

The Hidden Signal in Speed

The time between verbal trade and confirmed document is a measure of discipline.
Our benchmark is same-day issuance.
If a confirm lags 24 hours, that is a system problem, not a workload problem.
Speed and accuracy are not opposites; they are cause and effect.

Verification Over Conversation

Aelix confirms are designed so that no conversation is required after execution.
Everything that can be verified is already there.
That is why our counterparts trust the paper before they even nominate flow.

TL;DR

Aelix confirmations are built to execute, not decorate.
Every line is a control point. Every deal confirmed the same day.
That is how paper becomes proof.
